After a serious of contentious public hearings that drew record crowds, the board had granted the Muslim group a special use permit to construct a mosque in a residential area.

Proposed Project

The foundation wanted to build a 35-foot-tall mosque with a footprint of 13,000 sf, a flattened bronze dome topped with a crescent moon, and a 75-foot-tall decorative minaret. The majority of the 15-acre property would be reserved for green space.
