In 2012, the West End Islamic Center proposes to knock down its single-story temporary mosque and replace it with a 35,000-square-foot facility that would include a mosque, classrooms, a daycare, a kitchen, offices and a conference room. Some residents oppose the plans at a Henrico County Planning Commission meeting, voicing concerns such as increased traffic, insufficient parking and maintaining the historic look of the neighborhood.
